When you've been set up to lose everything you love, what is there left to fight for? As the day dawns on the fiftieth annual Hunger Games, fear grips the districts of Panem. This year, in honour of the Quarter Quell, twice as many tributes will be taken from their homes.
Back in District 12, Haymitch Abernathy is trying not to think too hard about his chances. All he cares about is making it through the day and being with the girl he loves. When Haymitch's name is called, he can feel all his dreams break. He's torn from his family and his love, shuttled to the Capitol with the three other District 12 tributes: a young friend who's nearly a sister to him, a compulsive oddsmaker, and the most stuck-up girl in town. As the Games begin, Haymitch understands he's been set up to fail.
But there's something in him that wants to fight . . . and have that fight reverberate far beyond the deadly arena.
- Four books, five films and one worldwide phenomenon, The Hunger Games original trilogy changed the face of global YA and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes was an instant number one bestseller (Nielsen Bookscan, May 2020).
- All four of the Hunger Games novels have been made into major feature films, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Rachel Zegler, Tom Blyth and Peter Dinklage.
- A feature film for Sunrise On the Reaping - the fifth book in the Hunger Games series - is slated for November 2026, starring Joseph Zada, McKenna Grace, Whitney Peak and Ralph Fiennes as President Snow

"Our tears will not be used for their entertainment."
Even though I'm familiar with the Hunger Games - Universe, since I watched the movies multiple times, this was the first time I read one of the books. For me the best thing about this was how vivid verything was written, it was very easy to picture the scenes in my head. The whole story also adds so much character to Haymitch and other persons that we meet in the first books. The concept for the arena in these Hunger Games was one of the best in the whole franchise in my opinion. I'm very excited to see the movie adaption. -

love you like all-fire
Spoiler without context: Haymitch's name is reaped for the first time in Catching Fire. Probably my favourite book in the series. It makes you rethink everything you thought you knew about the Hunger Games, the Rebellion and one Haymitch Abernathy. -

the 50th hunger games
Haymitch gets reaped on his birthday for the 50th hunger games. For the anniversary of the 50th games the capitol picked 4 contestant each district , twice as much as usual. In this book we get to know haymitch how he used to be and what made him be the haymitch as we know him. -

When Power Controls All
From the very first pages, readers are drawn into a tense and haunting dystopian world reminiscent of Katniss’ and Lucy’s experiences in the games. The world feels both vivid and unsettling, and Collins’ writing is immersive, capturing the fear, desperation, and resilience of her characters with remarkable clarity. The story’s pacing maintains high suspense while subtly weaving in thought-provoking reflections on power, society, and human nature. As the narrative unfolds, readers begin to question what else the Capitol may have hidden from the public throughout the Hunger Games. "Sunrise on the Reaping" once again illustrates the extent to which corrupt regimes can manipulate and control without citizens even noticing, leaving a lingering sense of unease and reflection. -

Amazing storytelling
Suzanne Collins returns to the world of Panem with the long-awaited story of the 50th Hunger Games, which tells the heartbreaking origins of Haymitch Abernathy in an intriguing critique of propaganda and its influence on society. Grab your tissues and get ready to fall in love with the rich and character driven writing of the genius author (+ a healthy dose of suffering)
