Meine letzte Rezension Sweetbitter Song von Rosie Hewlett
This is a sapphic version of "The Song of Achilles" in the best way. What stood out to me the most is that the author doesn't romanticize the power relations in ancient greece. Slavery, misogyny and sexual harassment play as big a role as the love story in this book. And I think that's important for a good retelling. This story of Penelope and Melantho is the definition of yearning and my heart broke for them multiple times troughout the story. But in the end this tale still tells about the power of women, especially when they stand together.

Sweetbitter Song

    If We Were Villains

    Dieses Buch wird mir für immer im Gedächtnis bleiben. Das Setting und die verschiedenen Dynamiken zwischen den Charakteren sowie deren Entwicklung haben mich von Beginn an komplett in ihren Bann gezogen. M.L. Rio's Schreibstil lässt einen so in der Welt des Dellecher Colleges versinken, dass man das Gefühl bekommt alles in Echzeit mitzuerleben. Die Verwendung von Shakespeare-Zitaten in den Dialogen machen dieses Buch für mich einzigartig. Fans von "The Secret History" von Donna Tara werden dieses Buch lieben.

    Malibu Rising

    Der Schreibstil von Taylor Jenkins Reid lässt einen immer denken, dass man über Berühmtheiten liest, die wirklich existiert haben, obwohl alles Fiktion ist. Malibu Rising entführt einen an die kalifornische Küste in den 80er Jahren. Surfen, Strand, Familienkonflikte und eine ereignisreiche High Society Hollywood Party nach der nichts mehr ist wie es vorher war. Die Charaktere sind sehr komplex und gleichzeitig relatable geschrieben und vor allem die Protagonistin Nina Riva mach eine befreiende Selbstentwicklung durch. Auch der Humor ist perfekt abgestimmt, ich musste an mehreren Stellen laut lachen. Ein Muss für den Sommer.

    Hot Wax

    What I love most about M.L.Rio's writing style is that she can create so much chemistry between characters that you feel almost physically trough the book. It was so easy to get emersed in the story because it was so multi-layerd. That also goes for the main character, I loved her. And of course I also loved the music and band-tour aspect of it. Fans of Daisy Jones and The Six will devour this!!

    Ithaca

    I'm so glad that this book exists. There are so many retellings of the Odyssee and the Trojan War out there but this one tells the story of Penelope and the women left behind on Ithaca while Odysseus was gone for years. Each book of this series ist written in the POV of a different greek godess which I find genius because they all have a different connection to our main characters. The writing style is lyrical whilst not being to complicated. The story makes clear that Ithaca would've been fallen upon Odysseus return if the women hadn't defended their home. I loved how the author paints Penelope not as a helpless wife without her king, but as a cunning and strong queen who pulls all the strings from the shadows. Thanks to these books she is now my favourite figure in greek mythology.

    Atmosphere

    I loved every page of this. TJR just always portrays her characters so beautifully and real. This book had so many different facettes to it and it made my heart ache and burst at the same time.

    Delilah Green Doesn't Care

    This will forever be one of my favourite sapphic romances. It's just the perfect mix of everything. Tension, angst, character developement and, of course, spice. The story is perfectly paced without being shallow. I loved every single character of the friend group that's introduced, which also added a bit of a found family trope. Ashley Herring Blake's books will always be my go to comfort romance reads.
