A Dark, Poetic Romantasy Full of Emotion and Depth

This book truly took me by surprise – in the best possible way. From the very first pages, it became clear: The Knight and the Moth is not your average romantasy. It’s a hauntingly beautiful, atmospheric tale that walks the delicate line between faith, magic, and longing. Rachel Gillig’s writing is rich and lyrical – not the easiest read if you’re not a native English speaker, but absolutely worth it. I read this book more slowly than I usually do with English novels, simply because I wanted to reread so many sentences – because they were so beautifully written. The story of Sybil, a young prophetess, and Rodrick, the heretical knight, is not just a mysterious and gripping journey – it’s also a deeply human story about trust, doubt, and the quiet strength of love. The world Gillig creates is dark and fairytale-like. This book made me laugh and cry – so much crying at one part. The characters are vibrant, layered, and refreshingly different from the usual tropes. I especially loved the slow, tender connection between Sybil and Rodrick – subtle yet powerful. The Knight and the Moth is, for me, a true standout in the romantasy genre – poetic, emotional, and deeply resonant. If you enjoy moody settings, slow-burn romance, and characters with real depth, this book is an absolute must-read. I can only recommend it – and honestly, I’m not ready to leave this world behind.

Endlich wieder ein tolles Fantasy Buch nach Acotar

Nachdem ich ,,Das Reich der sieben Höfe" bzw Acotar gelesen habe, konnte mich kein Fantasy Roman mehr so richtig fesseln. The Knight and the moth hat es geschafft. Ich fand die Story toll, die Charaktere sehr liebenswert und sympathisch. Vor allem Sybil fand ich wirklich toll. Sie ist eine starke eigenständige Frau, das fehlt mir bei aktuellen Fantasy Romanen ein wenig. Ich bin schon sehr gespannt auf den zweiten Teil.

    life altering!

A must read! The symbolism in this book is so profound. It is also fast paced, beautifully written and heals your inner child. it made me cry, shattered me, pieced me back together and broke me again. I'm waiting for the next book!

    Hab’s geliebt

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

“It is easier, swearing ourselves to someone else's cause than to sit with who we are without one.”

I honestly don't know how to put this book into words. It was mystical, bright, dreadful, funny, full of yearning, strong and devastating. It's a book about friendship, about being lost and about finding your way. I really don't want to say too much because, as you know, when you read my other entries, I am a big fan of starting a book without knowing what it's about. All you really have to know is be ready to feel everything; be prepared for everything. Now, my opinion: Like "One Dark Window", I enjoyed reading this very much as well. It was not as dark and foggy as the other book, but it was very fitting for the plot. I was laughing so much because how could you not with Bartholomew? Also, I very much enjoyed the strong female protagonist, always a sucker for that. It made me feel everything, and I was so eager to know what's coming next. Luckily I didn't have to wait for the second part because as soon as I finished this, Rachel released "The Knave and the Moon", and I could continue the story seamlessly. I recommend this to everyone that enjoys romance, but I would also suggest reading this book even if it's not your genre. Give it a try; you might like it.

    Oh my Bartholomew...

I've read this book twice now and I cannot even begin to tell you how great it is. The story is so unique and the characters are written in a very realistic way. They have flaws and their own story and also act accordingly. I truly fell in love with the Stonewater Kingdom and the characters and it is always a pleasure to dive right back into it. Reading this story just feels like coming home after a long day and finally being able to relax. This book is for everyone who loves a unique magic system and flawed characters with a very gothic, eerie and middle ages-like setting. This book is just amazing and I recommend every fantasy lover to read it. Also... Rodrick Myndacious?!?! Yeah... I don't think there's more to say to this. I am so hyped for the second book!!

    New comfort read unlocked

Rachel Gillig blew me away with her atmospheric and unique writing style. Her story pulls you in immediately and you can't help but fall in love with all the characters (especially Bartholomew). But what finalized my hyperfixation with this book is the portrayal of our main character. I felt so much for and with her - which made seeing Sybil find her own group of people and her love to Rory such a heartwarming experience. The ladyknight and found family trope just never misses. I'm not being dramatic when I say that every fantasy lover MUST read this book! The wait for Rachel Gillig's next piece of art will be torture.

    Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

And the award for the best side character goes tooooo... BARTHOLOMEW!

If you like gothic atmosphere, a dark, ominous vibe, a strong, kind of unconventional heroine then look no further! Lately I noticed the new hype of medieval fantasy with a strong FMC, who wields a sword, is badass and on a revenge mission and "The Knight and the Moth" fits this description perfectly! So if this sounds intriguing to you, you should definitely read this book. But be aware, this is only the first installment in the duology and it's so good, you want the second book immediately! But trust me, this is the perfect fall read, so let's embrace the sweet emotional torture that comes with waiting for book two.
