Coraline

"Coraline" von Neil Gaiman ist wirklich ein fantastisches Kinderbuch für alle, die sich gerne ein wenig gruseln. Allerdings kann man "Coraline" auch sehr gut als Erwachsene*r lesen - mir hat es zumindest sehr gut gefallen. Die Geschichte war spannend und fesselnd und die Charaktere vielseitig, einige wirkten sehr surreal, komisch. Der Schreibstil war sehr einfach. Wer den gleichnamigen Film kennt, wird vielleicht enttäuscht sein, dass Wybie kein Charakter in dem Buch ist. Stattdessen bekommen wir aber einen wesentlich tieferen Eindruck von Coraline selbst. Jetzt muss Coraline nämlich auf viele Details selbst kommen - und führt deshalb einige, interessante Monologe. Auch die Zeichnungen von Dave McKean haben mir ausgesprochen gut gefallen und die Denkanstöße und das kurze Interview mit dem Autor haben mir Spaß bereitet. Alles in allem ein wirklich fantastisches Kinderbuch!

I watched the movie first and was hoping for the book to be good … What can I say? I liked it even more! It is such a beautiful “Alice in wonderland”-like tale that adds a darker and thus deeper touch to the idea of “girl escaping into a world behind a portal” theme. It is a good read full of wisdom that will be enjoyed by children as well as adults. (I was also happy to find an interesting comment by the author at the end of the book, telling us more about the idea and working process behind “Coraline”.)

Coraline is a young girl who feels very bored in her family‘s new flat and goes exploring. She stumbles across a door that leads her to another flat that looks exactly like her own. Only it’s different. The „other“ parents are already waiting on the other side…

I always wanted to watch Coraline but I just couldn't find it on any streaming platforms... so I got this book and it was totally worth it. The story was amazing, thrilling and (of course) spooky through and through.

As Coraline moves with her family into a new house she finds a strange looking door. Behind it she finds her mother and her father but something seems off... both of them have black-buttons as eyes and they want her to stay with them forever... A fairytale-like horror story.
