»Divine Rivals« is the beautiful, yet heartbreaking first book of the 'Letters of Enchantment' duology. In this book we follow Iris Winnow, a journalist who, after her rival colleague Roman Kitt gets the next big headline to work on, quits her job and decides to write for another newspaper. The twist; for them she has to visit a small town near the magical warzone where Dacre and Enva, two ancient gods, lead their people and creatures into death. And while she exchanges enchanted letters with a stranger who teaches Iris about her country's history, the situation is about to escalate at the war front. When I tell you, I could not put this book down, as the writing and plot were so gripping, I mean it. Iris and Roman's story was truly beautiful. The plot is unique and gripping and while one can assume some bits and pieces from the story, the twist towards the end was shocking! I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to get a first taste of fantasy, but is yet hesitant when it comes to dragons, etc. With the Urban Fantasy theme, this one is a gem in its subgenre.
