Kill Creatures

Rory Power has mastered the unreliable narrator with this novel, that will leave readers guessing about what actually happened until the very end! In this novel we follow our main character Nan (who is also the narrator of the story), as she tells us about her three best friends disappearing in a canyon exactly one year ago. Although she is not ashamed to tell the readers immediately that she is the one who killed them...or at least she thought as much, until one of them happens to return. Now she must deal with the aftermath. The fast pace and tense atmosphere of this story kept me hooked until the last page, I simply couldn't put it down. It is told alternating between flashbacks of what happened the previous year, when the girls first ventured into the canyon together and now, where Nan must face the consequences of her actions. Each character is written so well and intriguing, you are never fully sure who you can trust, given the fact that the murderer is the one telling the story from her point of view. An incredibly exciting book that I would recommend to anyone who wishes for a different kind of thriller experience, that might just mess with your head a little.

Mit einer Geschichte, die zwischen Vergangenheit und Gegenwart hin- und herspringt, sehen wir, wie sich die Ereignisse entfalten, als der Tag des Mordes näher rückt, und auch, was an diesem Tag wirklich passiert ist, während Geheimnisse in der Gegenwart ans Licht kommen Es ist schnell zum lesen, und ich war total gespannt darauf, herauszufinden, was tatsächlich passiert ist, aber die Enthüllungen waren ein bisschen underwhelming. Trotzdem hat es mir geholfen, aus meinen reading-slump herauszukommen, und insgesamt hat es mir gefallen.
