Meine letzte Rezension The River Has Roots von Amal El-Mohtar
This short novella was incredibly enchanting! From the lyrical writing, to the mysterious atmosphere, this story puts a spell on you from the very first page. Reading this novella almost feels like reading an old fairytale, with its ancient magic and hidden faery realms that reside right beside our own world. At its core it is a tale of sisterhood, family and love that conquers all. This story flows almost like a river, carrying the reader along for a most magical adventure you will remember for some time.

    The Everlasting

    This novel was beautiful in every aspect. The tale of Una and Mallory left me absolutely astonished, I was hooked from the first page until the very end. Every character just felt so well written, complex and deeply human, which gave the story an emotional weight that just draws the reader in. The prose was gorgeous and lyrical, it felt simply enchanting and fit the vibe of the story perfectly. At it’s core „The Everlasting“ is a story about love and devotion in all its forms, but it also discusses the power of history and how we shape it. All in all it is both an incredible love story that conquers time itself and a thought provoking fantasy that will captivate you. This story will live in my heart and mind for quite a while!

    The Salt on Our Skin

    A gorgeous novel about a summer spent in Greece and a first love that stays with you forever. While this is Rhea Ellis debut novel, you would not be able to guess so, for her writing was incredibly beautiful. This sapphic love story is filled with such intensity and longing, that it simply makes your heart ache in the best way. In addition the atmosphere is described so vividly, that it almost feels like you are sitting on the sun-drenched beach yourself. This book is absolutely perfect for summer and I enjoyed every second of it.

    The Starving Saints

    This novel truly felt like a horrifying fever dream in the best kind of way! A different kind of fantasy horror, set in a besieged castle, where food is slowly becoming scarce, until mysterious visitors arrive to offer salvation....but at what cost? Featuring a sapphic lady knight and her unhinged girlfriends, lots of tension and yearning as well as the questioning of both loyalty and faith. This magnificently weird, dark and equally compelling story and the morally questionable characters that you cannot help but root for, make this book absolutely unputdownable. I recommend you go into this book knowing as little as possible, to fully enjoy this disturbing ride, along with our three heroines.

    The Twisted Ones

    T. Kingfisher has definitely worked her way up to becoming one of my favorite authors! In this novel, she has once again managed to give life to such unique and human characters, that instantly managed to crawl their way into my heart, while also creating a deeply unsettling and creepy storyline that stayed in my mind long after I put the book down. The protagonist Mouse and her dog Bongo made for such a sweet and humorous duo, which, combined with the terrifying creatures and situations they encountered, created a perfect mix for this novel. With an easy and engaging writing style this is an excellent folk horror novel, for people that are new to the genre, but also experienced horror readers looking for something new and a bit different.
