This short horror novella definitely packs a punch! While this is the authors debut novella, it certainly doesn’t feel that way. Fast paced, thrilling and scary but also surprisingly funny, this story is perfect for fans of T. Kingfisher’s works. Lou was a wonderfully unhinged character, that has managed to endure everything up until their satisfyingly vicious breaking point. The creepy atmosphere of being stalked by something unknown through the wilderness created an intense amount of tension, that just kept me hooked from start to finish. But not only does this novella deliver hair-raising horror, it also manages to skillfully comment on capitalism, grief, mental health and the effects of generational poverty, without losing the suspense.
