Rezension

"While the ending is gut-wrenching, there is hope to be found in unexpected places as Eric learns to funnel his pain into his art." -The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books

"A heartfelt tale of grief." -New York Times

"Thao does a beautiful job of employing magic realism in this sometimes poignant but always captivating gay love story." -Booklist

"Thao casts an intelligent look into the harm and benefits of one teen's coping mechanisms in this sharply depicted exploration of grief and moving on." -Publishers Weekly

"Devastatingly honest and achingly human, When Haru Was Here is a melodic exploration of love, loneliness, and the multitude of ways grief shapes us. No one captures the beauty in heartbreak like Dustin Thao."
-Julian Winters, award-winning author of Right Where I Left You

"When Haru Was Here is a mind-bending, gut-punching, heart-healing portrait of grief. It's magical how Dustin Thao can make you fall in love with having your heart broken." -Adam Silvera, #1 New York Times bestselling author of They Both Die at the End

"Get your tissues ready, this is another heart-wrenching, stunning exploration of love and loss from Dustin Thao. I read Haru Was Here in a single sitting, and cried at the ending. Filled with raw emotions, relatable moments, and a touch of enchantment, prepare to have your heart broken and mended by the time the story is over." -Alex Aster, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Lightlark

Be prepared to ball your eyes out. I loved it :D very beautifully written and I'm still thinking about this book weeks later. It made me so sad I cried 3-4 times and I looked like I haven't slept for a week but it was worth it 100%

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

I had never related to a character that much before

This book broke me. In the good way of course, but still. It was so damn heartfelt, touching and sensible. The book is about Eric, who is simply just existing but somehow still needs to move forward. Throughout the book there were a few twists that had me staring at the wall for minutes because of overwhelming feelings. But I think that exactly those twists made the book so awesome. And due to the fact that it is also a queer book, it was even better for me as a queer peron myself. I really have to say, I really enjoyed reading this book even though I shed an unhealthy amount of tears.

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

"It´s strange how people can come into your life and disappear from it. It makes you wonder if they were ever really there."

I usually don´t tear up reading books, but wow. To be honest i read this book half way through and now almost half a year later I finished it, or should I say it finished me. The writing was so beautiful. The story is bittersweet (just how I like it). And Eric and his life always had me on the verge of tears. If i wouldn´t have been in public reading the last pages i would have SOBBED.
