Espach zeigt das Innenleben ihrer Protagonistinnen so schonungslos ehrlich, dass man beim Lesen fast vergisst, wo man selbst endet und die Figuren beginnen. The Wedding People skyrocketed to my TOP 3 books - my heart is heavy but my spirit... lighter. Phoebe booked a room in this very expensive Vicorian Hotel to commit suizide. This would ruin Lila's perfectly planned wedding week (it's actually 6 days, to be specific) in this exact hotel! As a bride, she cannot let this happen, but why would Phoebe care now? even with a skeptical blurb, i found this book funny and still profound. we get to know these wedding guests and their stories. and i really want to add this in the review (might be a spoiler): i love the ending, i love how it just ends - no epiloque, no sugarcoating, just open.

What a special read!

The starting point is very heavy and sad and maybe you should look up TW if needed, but the voice of the MC is so light, fun and even lighthearted at times and I really enjoyed the difference and shift in tone from beginning to the end. We are in her head the whole time and follow along as she finds herself again, her way back to life and to what she really wants out of it! It's a story about empowerment as well as grief and loss and so much more. I really loved the characters and how different and distinct everyone was, which added really nice dynamics. The story was multifaceted and entertaining and even though it starts at a very dark place it has a hopeful tone and became fun and entertaining, while maintaining the serious topics and conversations about heavy topics and social commentary. I really, really liked this book!
