I loved how unpredictable this book was—it kept me hooked from start to finish. The writing is effortless, making it an easy read, yet it skillfully balances humor with moments of deep angst. Margo, our protagonist, finds herself in a precarious situation—pregnant at 19 by her professor, with no real job or future prospects. Her decision to start an OnlyFans account to support herself and her baby, Bodie, adds a fresh and modern twist to a familiar story of abuse of power and survival. One of my favorite characters was Margo’s estranged father, Jinx—a famous ex-wrestler with a compulsive cleaning habit (and other quirks I won’t spoil here). After a long absence from her life, he moves in with her, bringing both chaos and an unexpected sense of comfort. His presence adds depth and humor, making him one of the novel’s most memorable figures. Beyond its compelling characters, the book also offers sharp metacommentary on writing itself, exploring how authors embed pieces of their own lives into their stories and characters. It kept me wondering just how much of the story might reflect Rufi Thorpe’s own experiences. Funny, thought-provoking, and emotionally gripping, this novel is an absolute standout. I highly recommend it!

It's a book I will remember and definitely recommend!

I dived into the book without any expectation, only boredom and curiosity. I didn't expect to like it this much,but I must admit I will keep this story very close to my heart. It was fluid, quirky, well-written, introducing strong characters that will carry the plot. I grew truly attached to this small crew,and I blissfully followed them through their adventures. I feared with them, I smiled with them, I got pissed with them, I rolled my eyes with and at them, I doubted with them and I loved with them. Margo gains in maturity chapter after chapter and reflects a lot on her decisions and feelings, and being a part of her self-discovery journey was a pleasure. She constantly challenges the reader by asking questions one has probably already heard or thought themselves, especially about motherhood. What does it mean to be a good mother? Margo has to make decisions to prove to everybody she’s able to take care of her son despite being 19 and a college dropout. Is she a good mother, a good person, selling sexy videos to strangers while living with her drug addict dad and a flatmate? Is being a sex worker incompatible with being a good parent? With being faithful and worthy of a relationship? The answers seem obvious to me,but Margo’s experience shows us the contrary… I hated the toxic relationship she has with her mom, who judges her and refuses to help her in any way. She's a disgraceful parent, putting her new marriage first and leaving her daughter behind… again, even though she also raised her child alone. She's in denial or blatantly refuses to acknowledge her daughter is a better mother than she was. It's a clever parallel. The fight for the baby's custody was nerve wrecking and I couldn't believe the father's AUDACITY but it only reinforced how Margo is willing to break the intergenerational trauma and pave her road for a better future. She's an example of resilience. There's an interesting work on the pov, as sometimes Margo uses the first person narrative and sometimes the third one to describe events of her life which is also a theme in her literature class with said dad-professor. It's a clever tool to illustrate her personal growth. It's a book I will remember and definitely recommend!

An entertaining and heartwarming read about becoming an adult, new motherhood and all the struggles that come along with that. This book also was really funny! If you are looking for a novel with great, engaging writing, about female empowerment with social commentary, this is the book for you. The story itself was something I have never read before - it really felt original and refreshing! This novel was bold, it is definitely a statement!
