Sworn Soldier - What Moves The Dead

Alex Easton, sworn soldier, travels to the gothic, creepy mansion of kan childhood friends after a cry for help from Madeline Usher. That's all you need to know plotwise, everything else will unfold before your eyes and suck you into a beautifully written, dark, macabre story which is also quite funny at times. If the name Usher rings a bell, it is because this novella is inspired by Edgar Alan Poe's story "The Fall of the House of Usher." Some people seemed puzzled by the briefness of it, but I think it's the perfect length, especially for something that is based on a short story. If you wonder, what the hell a sworn soldier is, or what "kan" means, you best find that out by reading the novella. Kingfisher creates a sphere of interesting and unique characters, wrapped up in mysteries and some very unnerving discoveries.
