I didn’t know I needed a practical widow, a grumpy sword-bound warrior, a hedgehog god, and an inheritance dispute in my fantasy until Swordheart gave me all that and more. T. Kingfisher perfectly balances humor, heart, and a touch of weirdness. Halla is a delight—warm, impulsive, and totally unprepared for adventuring—while Sarkis is the perfect gruff counterpart, baffled by her and the modern world. Their dynamic is hilarious and heartfelt, with a surprisingly thoughtful approach to trauma, agency, and consent. It’s not a high-stakes epic, but a cozy, clever road-trip-rom-com with swords, gods, and deeply relatable paladins who care about paperwork. Ich konnte es kaum aus der Hand legen. Sehr spannend. Die Charactere haben eine tolle Chemie miteinander. Zum Glück wurde der zweite Band (Daggerbound) für 2026 angekündigt. Ich habe schon einige Bücher von der Autorin gelesen, aber dieses finde ich bisher am Besten.

T. Kingfisher is always able to write such lovable and unique characters that manage to work their way into your heart. In "Swordheart" we follow the respectable widow Halla, who is in her late thirties. She has recently inherited a small fortune and a magic sword with an unexpected surprise... Because once the sword is drawn by Halla, an immortal mercenary named Sarkis is released and now sworn to protect Halla no matter what (especially from her greedy relatives). They both embark on an incredibly entertaining and equally weird mission, where they end up meeting all kinds of new friends and foes along the way. I could not put this book down. It just manages to make you care so much about the charming characters and keeps you hooked with the perfect mix of adventure, humor, a little romance and cozy vibes. Truly recommend this standalone novel to anyone who wants to get into T. Kingfisher's works or simply wishes to be immersed in a fantastical world.
