The Grace Year

This book was eerie and horrifying and absolutely the vibe I was looking for as an october read. Usually I'm not the biggest fan of dystopian Fantasy YA novels, but this one surprised me. It was absolutely brutal, and even tho it is described in extremes, you can draw a line to issues in our current society (misogyny, patriarchal structures, mental health etc.) What surprised me the most was the romance plotline, I did not expect that at all! I don't want to give more details, because this book surprised me so many times because I went in knowing absolutely nothing about it, and I would recommend it the same way I heard it pitched: It is a mix between the handmaid's tale and lord of the flies, with social commentary in between some gruesome scenes and some little romance. I would absolutely recommend this book, especially as an autumnal read, because the setting and the vibes screamed fall to me. You should definitely check Trigger/Content Warnings before reading, because this book is not for the faint hearted.
