It Ends with Us A Novel

Yes, I do know that Colleen Hoover is a rather controversial author. But I still really enjoyed this book. Violence in a relationship is not some myth, it is not something that only happens to others. It can literally happen to anyone. And even if you think you know how you'll react in a situation like this, reality is often so much more complicated. In my opinion the very difficult topic of domestic violence was approached quite sensitive. The way the story repeats itself with Lily and Ryle after her mother already went through a violent relationship show how difficult it is to escape from an abusive relationship. I liked the way we got to know Lilys past experiences through her diary entries and therefore got to know them in an unfiltered teenager point-of-view. Some parts were quite emotionally disturbing to read, but then again a topic like this shouldn't be a light reading anyway. I wouldn't call this book a lovestory though. For me it was a portrayal of a woman finding her strength in her voice and escaping a very difficult situation. It is very honest and raw. In my case it opened up lots of emotions and I really felt what Lily was going through. Put yourself in her shoes - what would you do? When would be your turning point? How far can someone you love push you to your breaking point?

Growing up in a small town in Maine, Lily grew up resenting her mother for not leaving her abusive father. When she moved to Boston and started her own buisness she met Ryle, her life seemed almost to good to be true until her first love Atlas turns up, now she's questioning the relationsship she buildt with Ryle. She starts noticing repeating patterns from her childhood . . . This book had me hooked from the begining until the very last page.
