No one else manages to create deep characters and such an immersive world like Leigh Bardugo. Apart from the well structured main plot (a thrilling heist), the reader ist introduced to the dangerous underground of Ketterdam and its intriguing gang politics. Because the magic of the Grisha isn't a vital asset to excell in their endeavour, the Crows stand apart from the main cast of other books - which is a refreshing thing to read, as well as the realistic silliness of teenagers in such a position. The perfect read for everyone who wants to dive into interesting storytelling and nuanced characters.

In Six of Crows we follow the story of a gang that tries to break into and out of the best guarded prison, the Ice Court. A challenge that seems impossible, if it were not for Kaz Brekker and his crew of thieves and outcasts. I have seldom read a book that was so brilliantly crafted. The book stands out through its spectacular cast of well-rounded characters, that are all incredibly talented but also struggle with their own problems. Kaz is a genius but he has severe trauma. If you like morally gray characters with a profound and unsettling backstory you will love him.

So... Six of Crows is the story of the greatest heist. The Plan: Break into the Ice Court, the most secure prison in the world, and make it out again in one piece. Our six acting characters have more or less nothing in common. We have a high stakes gambler, a grisha who spezializes in espionage, a boy from a rich merchant family who can build bombs, ironically a grisha Hunter, the wraith the best burgular in all of Ketterdam, and her boss the enigmatic and mysterious Kaz Brekker the head/brain of the heist and the best lockpick there is. Since I dont want to spoil anything by accident I just say this : All the characters are great and have their own motivations for participating in the heist. Also Kaz is the best character!
