Meine letzte Rezension Kiss The Villain von Rina Kent
Ich muss sagen, ‚Kiss the Villain‘ war, was die Beziehung zwischen den Hauptcharakteren angeht, doch etwas düsterer als die meisten meiner Bücher – allerdings haben sich Gareth und Kayden wirklich verdient. Die beiden sind absolut nicht normal und so, so perfekt füreinander. Ich hatte unfassbar viel Spaß Gareth und Kayden von der Verleumdung ihrer Gefühle in die Obsession zu folgen, und auf eine fragwürdige Art und Weise sind die beiden unfassbar süß. Die Story hat mich super schnell mitgerissen und nicht mehr gehen lassen und die Seiten sind wie im Flug vergangen.

    The Setting Sun

    In The setting sun Dazai tells the moving tale of a young woman going through an array of hardships in post-WW II Japan, intricately depicting the complicated feelings family can provoke; how family can make living both easier and harder. We get to feel the warmth and love Kazuko feels for her mother and brother, but we also take a deep-dive into the sorrow born of that love and how the warying problems of her family-members affect Kazuko herself. I was sucked into the story within the first pages and probably would have read it in one sitting if I didn’t have to put it down to get my feelings in order several times. Most of Dazai’s novels tend to leave me in a melancholic mood, but The Setting Sun takes it a step further and left me close to tears multiple times.

    Ich kannte schon den Anime zu dieser Serie - den ich übrigens auch nur wärmstens empfehlen kann - aber der Manga hat mich tatsächlich auf seine eigene Art und Weise noch mehr gefesselt. Die vielen kleinen Dinge die wir über die Charaktere lernen (während der Geschichte, aber auch in den kleinen Sequenzen am Ende jedes Bandes), ihr großes Ziel und die tolle Gruppendynamik haben dafür gesorgt, dass ich wirklich alle Hauptcharaktere schnell ins Herz geschlossen habe, auch wenn sie sich auf der "falschen" Seite des Gesetzes befinden. Und dann noch der Zeichenstil! Ich weiß wirklich nicht, was ich dazu noch sagen soll, außer: ich bin verliebt!

    - and then there are the dark and twisted sides and the red flags along the way... Most of the story was really cute and I enjoyed the lovestory – as well as the hints at what was to come – a lot. The last few chapters totally lived up to the build-up and were everything I was anticipating and more. The ending hit me with surprise after surprise after surprise – and it got better and better and better.

    4.5 stars Katabasis is definitely not a super easy read - It's not just a story in an academic setting, the academia is *very* present but that is also one half of the reason I liked it so much. The other half would be the characters - everyone from our main characters to who they interact with in hell has their own goals, convictions and philosophies and thus feels like their own interesting person. The 0.5 star detraction is because - probably also due to the very academic tone, and Alice being Alice - I couldn't quite fall into the emotions of the story a hundred percent.

    Butcher and Blackbird

    Both of the badass, sassy and loveable idiots that are our main characters have stolen my heart in a blink. Getting to read both of their POVs was great – and their interactions were even better. It does get pretty descriptive in fun and less fun (though very fascinating) ways – poor Rowan is going to be traumatized forever – and even getting „spoiled“ some scenes in the TWs didn’t keep me from being surprised, grossed out and cackling at the way things play out. The writing style and humor made it feel like a pretty light read even though the contents do get pretty gruelsome and the pacing felt great – there are a lot of timeskips but none of them felt like I’ve been missing out on charakter development or plot. I can’t wait to get to the rest of the series!

    Ein super spannender Einblick in die Psychologie von sadistischen Straftätern, in psychologische Krankheitsbilder, und in die Frage, was denn nun eigentlich den Unterschied zwischen einvernehmlichen und straffälligen Sadisten ausmacht. Die Mischung von echten Kriminalfällen, Geschichten aus dem Leben und Arbeiten der Autorin und Info-Passagen hat mir wirklich gut gefallen – Sachtexte, düstere Begebenheiten und lockerere Themen bieten Abwechslung und stellen so ein komplexes und für einige Leute sicher verstörendes Thema so angenehm wie möglich dar. Natürlich geht es trotz allem noch immer um Serienmörder, Sexualstraftäter und Kink, wer sich allerdings für diese Themen interessiert bekommt hiermit eine große Leseempfehlung von mir.

    The Foxglove King - Ein Hauch von Tod

    Das Setting mit seinen leichten historischen Zügen, Religion und Kirche sowie Giften und Todesmagie hat meiner Meinung nach eine unglaublich tolle Stimmung geschaffen – und Plot und Charaktere haben mich ebenfalls nicht enttäuscht. Lore hat mir als Hauptcharakter wirklich gut gefallen, da sie sowohl charakterlich als auch magisch unfassbar stark ist, aber trotzdem nicht einfach alle Hindernisse problemlos überwindet und sich nicht zu gut ist, wenn auch manchmal zwangsweise, die Hilfe Anderer anzunehmen. Auch unser Sonnenprinz hat mich definitiv begeistert – ich habe schon lange keinen Charakter so sehr ins Herz geschlossen wie Bastian über den Verlauf dieses Buches. Vielschichtig, stark und mit seinen eigenen Prinzipien ist der Prinz mehr als man am Anfang vielleicht glaubt, und damit genau mein Typ für Lieblingscharaktere. Wer strahlende Helden mit weißer Weste sucht wird mit diesem Buch vermutlich eher nicht glücklich, ebenso wie Leute die Spice und einen starken Fokus auf Romance wollen – mir persönlich hat es dadurch tatsächlich nur umso besser gefallen. Die Spannungen, die es fast das ganze Buch hindurch zwischen unseren drei Hauptdarstellern gab, waren top und ich bin gespannt wo uns das im nächsten Band noch hinbringt. Auch der Epilog hat definitiv dazu beigetragen, dass ich dem nächsten Band entgegenfiebere – der Plottwist in den letzten Zeilen?? Wow

    A Study in Drowning

    I really really enjoyed the worldbuilding and atmosphere in this one. Academic settings in Fantasy have – at least in my opinion – to be either high fantasy with thourough, solid worldbuilding and strict magic rules or like this one: dry and realistic in the academic aspect and magical and fantastic everywhere else. Effy is really just an architecture student who believes in fairytales and desperately wants to study literature. Preston is a literature student who doesn’t believe in superstition – and on top of that gets the chance to write a thesis about Effy’s favourite author. Safe to say, when those two meet at the old Hireath Manor they don’t have the best start. But things are different here in the bottom hundred, and maybe Effy and Preston have to change too… The Romance plotline takes a backseat for most of the book and develops nice and slow - getting to watch the tension between our two main characters turn softer over time and then following along as their relationship evolves was great. The main plotline delivers as well: twists that were nicely foreshadowed, but still surprising in the moment, real live issues and an enchanting farytail mix into a gripping, fantastic story that draws you into a world you feel sad to leave, even if you might be glad not to live in it.

    Lights Out

    Lights out managed to be the prefect combination of humour, thrill, spice, and emotions to draw me in in a way not a lot of books have managed before. Ally and Josh are both kind of insane – in the best way possible – and so, so sweet together (and with their fur-baby Fred). Both have a dark past that might just catch up to them, and – because that alone wouldn’t be trying enough for their budding relationship – new problems arise. The writing style and humor made it feel like a pretty light read even though the contents do get darker at times and the pacing was good. I have to admit that I was not too fond of the last few chapters and the addition of Ally’s family – it changed the tone of the story, and I’m not sure I like going down the mafia route, but maybe the second book can change my mind when I eventually get to it. All in all it was a great read that really matched my style of humour and spice and definitely a recommendation for readers of dark Rom-coms.
