Tempest

Victoria Aveyard managed to write a phenomenal book with a lush and vibrant world full of pirates, ships, stormy weathers, deep waters and danger. The protagonist Cat Rose, a poor lady, has to navigate this world on her own and encounters the mysterious pirate captain Valerian Kane, with whom she has to form an alliance to survive. The structure of the plot, namly the fusion of the two timelines really intruiged me and made it impossible to stop reading. I really enjoyed seeing the pirate islands through Cat's eyes and see her growth from a sheltered and scared woman to her confident self. The romance was swooning and sucked me in from the start. At some times the pacing was a bit slow, which I didn't mind because I wanted to know more about the backgrounds of the characters. All in all a perfect read for when you are in the mood for pirates and adventure!
