Disappointing second book

Bewertung am 03.04.2026

Bewertungsnummer: 3098934

Bewertet: eBook (ePUB 3)

I read „A Fire in the Sky“ and found myself sucked into the fantasy world. Although the major plot points were largely clear from the start, I enjoyed the magic of the world that was created. This book, however, feels from the start as though I missed a book in between (due to a rather egregious time skip that felt lazy, rather than purposeful). Having now got to the end, I would say that it felt incredibly rushed - the last few chapters in particular feel like they were written by an author desperate to wrap things up and be done. The character development in this sequel is either instantaneous or entirely absent, and the story is left feeling entirely unresolved - blink in the last few chapters, and you will miss a major plot point that is only given a few sentences to hold the spotlight before being hurried off stage for the next. There is so much potential in the world building here, but „A Scar in the Bone“ would honestly be a disappointing middle book in a trilogy, let alone a triumphant end to a duology. TLDR - as a reader, I feel very let down by this book and its treatment of the world and characters, and could only hope that a blindingly good third book might be released in future to remedy this. Until such a time, I could not recommend these books despite their potential.
