As Long as You Loathe Me

The ending was sweet, if a bit rushed, but getting there was a struggle. I didn’t enjoy the first two-thirds of the book, and both main characters felt like they would benefit from some serious therapy rather than a romance arc. Meera’s friends were particularly frustrating, supportive one moment, then suddenly distant and unwilling to communicate the next, which made their behavior feel inconsistent and underdeveloped. I also expected a stronger focus on romance. Instead, the more compelling aspect was watching both protagonists come to terms with their own sexuality, which was handled with a certain charm and sensitivity. What really stood out negatively, though, was the persistent vegan slander. It felt unnecessary and oddly aggressive, recurring so frequently that it became distracting. Framing veganism, something tied to ethical, environmental, and personal health considerations, as a punchline added little to the story and grew increasingly tiresome.
