I absolutely devoured it — even though it took me months to mentally prepare myself for part three… oops. This was one of the most challenging, yet strangely accessible fantasy books I’ve ever read. There is so much to learn and understand — the politics, the alliances, the magic system and yet SenLinYu writes it in a way that makes even the most complex structures feel graspable. The entire system is mind-blowing. I genuinely cannot wrap my head around the fact that a human… an actual human created a world like this. I’m human too, and I could never. Truly never. What I also deeply appreciate is how this book mirrors real-world issues. For example, Helena’s hair. The fact that not even the “good” side could fully accept her because its curly… that hit. I love how subtly but powerfully the story addresses prejudice, bias, and societal norms. The storyline is incredibly well thought out. Every thread matters. And I especially loved how every lingering question is answered in the end through the newspaper. We know what happened to everyone. Nothing feels unfinished. The book closes with clarity — and I appreciated that more than I can say. The ending was frustrating… but in the best, most painful way. I 100% understand Kain’s and Helena’s choices. They ended a war together and chose peace over glory. They chose each other over recognition. And that is what makes it so powerful. I will forever cherish this book and will always recommend it to fantasy readers. Thank you, SenLinYu, for this masterpiece. True heroes don’t need to be remembered — only the peace they left behind.

Alchemised ist ein packendes, düsteres Buch, das unter die Haut geht. Die Geschichte ist so intensiv, dass man zwischendurch fast eine Pause braucht – und dennoch lässt sie einen nicht los. Eine fesselnde Mischung aus Dunkelheit, Emotion und Spannung, die lange nachhallt.

Alchemised is a dark fantasy novel that, first and foremost, isn't about tragic love (if it can even be called love rather than emotional dependence), but about war and its aftermath, about a woman's place in society, the burden of promises and wrong decisions, and the way faith imposed by those in power turns people into obedient marionettes with rose tinted glasses perched on their noses. This book is an engaging read that draws you into a world of alchemy, necromancy, espionage, and much more. The war drains the characters, reshapes them, and condemns them to carry out morally questionable missions. The story also doesn't shy away from portraying the struggle of integration into a new society - when you're an immigrant trying to blend in, to feel like you belong, to feel that your contribution matters. I would have loved a bit more immersion into the characters' pre-war lives to avoid the feeling of groundhog day and to better understand their relationships. Though it wasn't a waste of time, something was lacking that could have made the story more emotionally resonant. That's it.

Ich wusste, dass es ursprünglich eine Harry Potter-Fanfiction ist und da ich früher Fanfiction gelesen und geschrieben, ist mir der Stil vertraut. Beworben wurde es als Dark Romantasy mit starkem Worldbuilding und zurückhaltender Romanze, das trifft zu, und dafür gibt es 3 Sterne. Der Anfang war stark, doch die Nebencharaktere und der Kriegshintergrund blieben blass. Viele Figuren wirkten, als existierten sie nur, um die Protagonistin auszunutzen. Die Zeitsprünge waren gelungen und machten Spaß, doch der letzte Teil war schwach. Einige Szenen wirkten leer, weil diese offensichtlich aus der HP Welt herausgelöst worden. Dadurch zog sich die Handlung, viele Motive wiederholten sich und manche Passagen waren einfach zu lang.

Die Schmuckausgabe steht nun in meinem Regal. Hab ich mir schenken lassen. Sieht super aus. Und fühlt sich wertig an. Bei 1000 Seiten ist das Buch trotzdem sehr schmal, also dünne Seiten. Das Buch hatte ich bereits vorher schon gelesen und bin begeistert vom Aufbau und der Charakter Entwicklung. Mittlerweile höre ich mir dazu auch das Hörbuch an. Lohnt sich das zu lesen!
