Hunger

This book is the 'what the hell did I just read' kind of book. Like it was weird but also weirdly good. What really threw me off was the timeskips that happened from one 'chapter' to another. I could never tell what was the 'present' and what was the 'past'. But that is okay. This book was also philosophical from time to time, which gave me a reason to think about the questions asked in the book. So yeah, it definitely is a cult classic.

"I will eat you, Gu. I will eat you and live for an extraordinarily long time." This book sounds and is very brutal and raw, but that is exactly what makes it so interesting to read. The two main characters are absolutely obsessed with each other, to the point of promising to eat one another if one of them passes away, to become “one”. Their relationship sounds and feels very toxic, but they do in fact have some cute moments together. We constantly jump from past to present, from one POV to the other, and from simple thoughts to recollections of their Lives. Even though this story isn’t really coherent and at times a bit confusing, the simple and beautiful writing style makes it easy to read. So if you like weird, confusing, grotesque Asian literature, then you should definitely give this book a try!
