Magic, Mystery, and a Touch of Mischief

"The God and the Gumiho" is a captivating blend of fantasy and Korean mythology. The story follows Hani and Seokga, whose grumpy x sunshine dynamic truly wins you over—while I initially chose the book for Seokga's intriguing nature, Hani's vibrant character quickly stole my heart. The novel effortlessly combines modern settings with ancient lore. Even though I had to look up a few mythical Korean creatures, it never broke the smooth, engaging flow of the narrative. With balanced pacing and immersive world-building, this book is a must-read for fans of fantasy and mythology.

    loved it

Yes, this reads like a kdrama, just a bit more darkness and intimacy for what one is used to. This is an adventorous Romantasy I enjoyed very much. Only thing I would have liked are footnotes or a glossary explaining the korean terms.

    Finally a Really Good Ending

I went blind into this book because it came in my Fairyloot sub. The first description of Seokga draw me in immediately. I love him. He is so cocky and grumpy, I can’t cope. The “relationship” Hanni and Seokga have in the beginning is absolutely hilarious. I find it refreshing that the actions of Hanni aren’t all good, she makes mistakes, she lies etc. and it’s not forgiven just like that. I also very much enjoyed how the dynamic between Hanni and Seokga subtly and slowly changed, it didn’t feel forced one bit. Generally speaking this book really had it all. Intriguing mysteries, hardships, lies, hate, love, the right amount of spice and a refreshing ending. 5 out of 5 absolutely deserved! Now coming to the ending. I was so worried the ending is gonna flop. (Spoiler warning!) I’ve seen so many books and especially TV Series where the main character gets revived and their death ended up meaning absolutely nothing, but not this book. I love the way it has been done. Hanni dies for Seokga and it’s teased in the very end that she might have been reincarnated but it is made in such a way that it doesn’t feel undeserved. Really perfectly done.

It was an extraordinary, full of emotions experience.

I extremely enjoyed this book. It had all i was expecting. The main leads are just so well explained. The cases and andventures that theyy both undergo just full of emotions. Everything from mythical creatures to a little romance and very deep conection between the reader and the characters. I can't wait for the second book to come out.

Fancy magic, grumpy gods and a sassy fox

If you like fantasy kdrama this is the perfect book for your collection. The story follows a fallen trickster god trying to solve a murder series and a cunning gumiho making his life a living hell. The story was captivating and fun with just the right amount of thriling suspense. All in all this book was a really good read with actual enemies to lovers action!

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

    Seokga, the coffee addict

The fallen trickster god and coffee addict Seokga is trying to get reinstated as a god, but has to kill a powerful demon and the Scarlet Fox to achieve his goal. The gumiho Hani does everything in her power to prevent him from finding out her real identity by supporting him in his investigations as his assistant. Sophie Kims romantic mystery - inspired by Korean myths - is a fun read with lots of banter, demon hunting and a grumpy (ex-)god I loved the moment he first appeared.

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

A Sharp-Tongued Dance Between God and Fox

"The God and the Gumiho" is an enchanting blend of myth, wit, and slow-burning tension. Sophie Kim crafts a world where immortals hide behind café counters and ancient grudges simmer beneath playful banter. Hani, the infamous Scarlet Fox with a bloodstained past, is a fiercely independent heroine—cunning, guarded, and far more vulnerable than she would ever admit. Seokga, the fallen trickster god, is arrogant, charming, and deliciously unpredictable. Their dynamic is electric: full of sharp dialogue, reluctant alliances, and the kind of tension that feels both dangerous and inevitable. While the beginning introduces a wealth of mythological elements that may take a moment to settle into, the story soon finds its rhythm. What follows is a fast-paced tale of demons, divine politics, and emotions neither protagonist is prepared to face. Romantic without being overly sweet, humorous without losing its emotional weight, this novel offers a vibrant start to a duology that promises even greater depths to come. A captivating read for anyone who enjoys myth-infused fantasy with bite and heart.
