Meine letzte Rezension Fateless von Julie Kagawa
"Fateless" was the first book I read by Julie Kagawa and after reading this, I'll definitely be taking a look at her other books as well. The first volume of the trilogy focuses primarily on establishing the world, introducing the most important characters and the beginning of the adventure which tears the fmc Sparrow away from her familiar surroundings and forces her to fight not only for her life, but also against her fate and that of her companions. I really liked the idea of people's fates and how, depending on the region, people have different understanding of the concept of "fate", which leads to interesting, funny and also intense moments as the plot unfolds. The book is a YA-fantasy featuring adventure, fantastic character development, supporting characters who relly support the plot and an antagonist who isn't simply evil. Highly recommended, especially for readers who want more magic and adventure in a fantasy book and just am romantic subplot that develops organically alongside the main plot rather than being the primary focus.

    The Bone Season

"The Bone Season" is a clever genre-mix of fantasy, dystopia and sci-fi. Samantha Shannon's debut novel takes the reader into the criminal underworld of a dystopian London and its clairvoyants - people who can "see" spirits and auras. The amazing characters guide you through a gripping plot that gains depth as soon as the main protagonist Paige is forced to leave London and is enhanced by the sci-fi element of the Rephaim. A wonderful series that I can't recommend highly enough!

    The Sea Spinner

The second book in the Reign of Remnants triology leads Rhya to the Water Court and on a journey of healing after the events of book one. Rhyas development is one of the best I've read in a long time and the cliffhanger is one of my favourites - even if it leaves you completely devastated. Johnson keeps the reader emotionally involved in the story throughout the whole book and not many authors have managed to do that for me recently. I love the plot and where it's leading and can't wait for the third installment in the series!

    Five Broken Blades

A group of criminals and liars have been chosen for a mission to kill the king. Each of the characters has a personal motiv to see the task through and is determened to fulfil it at all costs. The narrative shifts between all these characters as they navigate through the betrayals and alliances this mission entails. It's a story about right and wrong, betrayal and trust in a Korean-inspired world. Mai Corland seems to have no trouble weaving six narrative perspectives into a single story that captivates with its interesting characters and fantastic world-building.

    The God and the Gumiho

The fallen trickster god and coffee addict Seokga is trying to get reinstated as a god, but has to kill a powerful demon and the Scarlet Fox to achieve his goal. The gumiho Hani does everything in her power to prevent him from finding out her real identity by supporting him in his investigations as his assistant. Sophie Kims romantic mystery - inspired by Korean myths - is a fun read with lots of banter, demon hunting and a grumpy (ex-)god I loved the moment he first appeared.

The Priory of the Orange Tree

To be honest, as the start of the book was a bit confusing, I hadn't expected the plot to draw me in as much as it did, but Samantha Shannon has created something truly unique. Every character has their own story to tell, which all comes together in the end to form a larger whole. Once you've immersed yourself in this world, you don't want to leave it at all - you want to know exactly what happens to the characters next and whether they achieve their goals or fail. The author takes her time with the world-building and character development, allowing you to fully engage with the story and the protagonists, and gradually get to know not only them but also the religious context in which the story is set. A fantastic story and certainly not the last book of this author I'll read!
