Provocative & Vulnerable
WOW, what a read! A book that shook me right to my core and gave me a lot to think about. The protagonist, Shaka Isawa, who lives with a severe physical disability, challenges societal norms by expressing herself through desire and an unforgettable sense of humour. The book, which is highly influenced by the author’s own life, explores topics such as bodily autonomy, sexual freedom, and independence. What I found really impressive is that the book refuses to idealize her character; rather, it shows her as a complex and independent person. A raw and highly personal read that I cannot recommend enough!
