Many readers pick up Credence because of its BookTok reputation. the taboo relationships, the forbidden tension, and the undeniably addictive spice. And yes, the chemistry is intense. But reducing this novel to its spice would completely miss what makes it extraordinary. What truly stayed with me were the characters. From a psychological perspective, every central figure is shaped by profound loneliness. They are not simply driven by desire, but by grief, neglect, longing, and the universal need to belong. Penelope Douglas explores these emotional wounds with remarkable sensitivity, creating relationships that feel raw, messy, and deeply human. Tiernan's journey is particularly compelling. Watching her slowly come alive, only to realize that choosing one person inevitably means losing two others, gives the novel an emotional weight that is impossible to ignore. Even when she finally makes her decision, certainty never fully arrives. That lingering ambiguity makes the ending feel heartbreakingly authentic. The mountain setting perfectly mirrors the emotional landscape of the story. Isolated, beautiful, unforgiving, and quietly intimate. It becomes a character in its own right, amplifying every moment of vulnerability and tension. This is not simply a Dark Romance or a taboo romance. It is one of the most emotionally layered love stories I have ever read. Raw, beautifully written, psychologically rich, and impossible to put down. Without question, one of my books of the year. I have never read a love story that combines so much emotional depth, longing, atmosphere, and vulnerability quite like this one.

Ich habe es in zwei Tagen durchgelesen. Es ist gut und flüssig geschrieben. Die Art der Geschichte war spannend, und die Charaktere hatten unterschiedliche, gut ausgearbeitete Persönlichkeiten.

Super Schreibstil, super Character-Entwicklung. Konnte es nicht mehr weglegen. So toll! Bitte aber im vorhinein Trigger-Warnung beachten! Ist nicht für jeden, daher schon vorher abchecken.

Das Buch war von Anfang bis Ende äußerst fesselnd und hat mich mit jeder Seite mehr in seinen Bann gezogen. Die Handlung war spannend und gut durchdacht, sodass ich immer wissen wollte, wie es weitergeht. Die Atmosphäre, die der Autor erschuf, war intensiv und packend. Sowohl in seiner Erzählweise als auch in den tiefgründigen Themen, die es behandelte. Es hat mich emotional berührt und bleibt mir noch lange in Erinnerung.

Couldn't put it down. A very unusual story but with a deep meaning and complex characters. Very thoughtprovoking and fascinating. More on the dark and sad side but still with funny moments.
