    Buch (Taschenbuch)

A horseriding, military bodyguard and a badass lawyer - what can go wrong?

Broken Vow was my first Sophie Lark book and also my introduction to the dark romance genre. While I found out that dark romance isn’t really my thing, I still appreciated the storytelling and the engaging and amusing dynamic between the two main characters. The story follows Riona, a fierce, no-nonsense lawyer who finds herself in danger, and Raylan, the rugged, ex-military cowboy who gets hired to protect her. It’s a bodyguard romance with a grumpy/sunshine trope — but with a refreshing twist: she’s the grumpy one and the bodyguard is Mr. Sunshine. It also falls into the "forced proximity" trope, which I quite like. Their initial animosity and tension eventually turns into lots of banter and a strong connection. I enjoyed seeing their relationship evolve and Riona come out of her stuck & closed-minded ways. Although some of the darker elements, like the mafia storyline, didn’t appeal to me personally, the plot moved well, and the chemistry between the characters kept me reading. Sophie Lark’s writing style is witty and immersive, and I can see why she is such a popular author. All in all, Broken Vow didn’t convert me into a dark romance lover, but I still enjoyed reading this book. I think it's a great book if you want to start reading dark/mafia romance and want to take it slow. And you can never tell if you really like/dislike something without trying it first and well - that was my attempt at reading dark romance/mafia romance. Safe to stay I am going to stick to my regular cowboy romance books in the future
