This historical fiction set in revolutionary France, follows the miserable, albeit unique, life of Tarare, a tender-hearted peasant born in a dirt-poor village. When things take a turn for the even worse, an insatiable hunger drags him across the country through one outrageous event to the next. The beautiful, detailed and almost poetic writing makes this gritty story incredibly vivid and altogether a joy to read!
