I'm a Fan

This story about obsession and power dynamics in toxic relationships is probably not for everyone, but if this small book finds its target audience (buzzword: weird girl fiction) it definitely will leave a lasting impression. The writing style makes it easy to read even though the complexity and layering of the story gives it a literary touch. This novel is beyond any doubt one where you could highlight many sentences, dissect each chapter in search of even more words and meanings between the lines. This brings me to the interesting structure of "I'm a Fan": The chapters are short but impactful, each of them has a headline to capture the vibes of the following paragraphes, no numbered chapters which gives the illusion of journal entries or blog posts rather than the classic novel construct. To be clear: This is not a book about good people, everyone is flawed and will let you question their every intention and characters in general. The social commentary was also on point. The author doesn't shy away from speaking up, critiquing and being direct and ruthlessly honest if not even blunt - provocative and liberating. A short, literary delicacy that will drag you down into the vortex of its protagonist's obsession and will leave you spiraling!
