Rezension

Praise for KATE IN WAITING: "Albertalli has crafted a rom-com that's not only sharp and funny, but distinguished by its casually diverse LGBTQ cast's awareness that friendship (among friends, to be sure, but also siblings, and gasp, romantic interests) is as important as love." - Publishers Weekly (starred review)

"Real chemistry between the different love interests in the book, authentic dialogue, supportive friendships, and Albertalli's signature humor make this a must-read. Flips the script on battling over a boy in the best way possible." - Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

"Endearingly heartfelt...gushing with laughs" - Shelf Awareness (starred review)

Praise for YES NO MAYBE SO: "Buoyed by humor, enriched by a colorful supporting cast, and strung through with a charming (and charmingly awkward) romantic subplot, Jamie and Maya's story, their miscommunications, and their true connection will win hearts and inspire action." - ALA Booklist (starred review)

"Albertalli and Saeed unfold a story told in alternating chapters that weaves together timely, relevant, and engaging themes. With topical references to state and national issues . . . this is a warm, beautiful story about relationships' beginnings, endings, and transitions; and the transformative power of local activism." - School Library Journal (starred review)

"Albertalli lays out the complicated and beautiful layers that come with accepting personal change and having the courage to take an honest look at oneself. A masterpiece that will be cherished by anyone who has felt they might not belong." - Booklist (starred review)

"Imogen, Obviously is perhaps Albertalli's best book yet, with an introspective look at how identity can shift and an engaging love story." - Buzzfeed

"Insightful prose teems with compassionate interrogations of the harms of compulsory heterosexuality and societally prescribed narratives. Via Imogen's wryly funny first-person narration, Albertalli crafts a striking portrait of one teenager's experience navigating sexual fluidity and the sometimes overwhelming fear of reinventing oneself." - Publishers Weekly (starred review)

"Plenty of witty banter-and a sweet romance-lighten a novel that's full of introspection and that validates not only a variety of identities but also individuals' paces for figuring them out." - Horn Book

"Drawn from Albertalli's experience with coming out, this novel offers an endearing story of one teen's struggle for self-acceptance. A sure hit with Albertalli's existing fans, this is likely to win her more in those who want a thought-provoking take on how sometimes what you want is more obvious to your heart than to your head." - Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books

"The plot of this novel is well-paced and entertaining... secondary characters are fleshed out, fully formed individuals with diverse queer and racial identities, and the relationships are full of humor and compassion. Imogen is a complex character with a distinct voice, and her story of grappling with her identity during this transitional period of life will resonate. An excellent addition to collections for teens."

- School Library Journal (starred review)

"All characters retain their unique voices and personalities, even though they've aged; they are the people readers expect them to be as they navigate coming into their own." - ALA Booklist (starred review)

"This one's for the girls with anxiety, for the chronic people pleasers, for anyone who worries if they're trying too hard or not hard enough, for the ones still figuring it out. A lot of people will recognize themselves in Imogen. A big-hearted, deeply vulnerable, love-bubbly tumble through self-discovery." - Casey McQuiston, author of #1 New York Times bestselling I Kissed Shara Wheeler

"Imogen, Obviously serves as a reminder that you matter, that you are valid, and that you are queer enough, no matter what others try to tell you. A love letter to finding your place in your own pace, the joy of queer found family, and the messy, chaotic journey of life, Imogen is sure to become your new best friend." - The Nerd Daily

"Bestselling author Becky Albertalli's latest novel offers a gentle, hilarious and authentic look at figuring out who you are on your own timeline. [It's] nearly impossible for the reader not to love Imogen." - BookPage (starred review)

"Imogen's journey feels authentic and sincere, and readers will find it difficult not to fall for her....Fresh, endearing, and heartfelt." - Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

"A sparkling romance and a moving account of a young woman's very contemporary bisexual awakening. Imogen, Obviously is a deeply personal novel about queerness in all its colorful complexity and a rallying cry to 'hold space for variation' in the LGBTQ+ community." - Shelf Awareness (starred review)

Praise for LEAH ON THE OFFBEAT: "Albertalli has a fantastic ear for voice, and it's beautifully on display in Leah's funny, wry, and vulnerable first-person narrative. Everything Albertalli already did so well in Simon she's improved upon here, and fans of the first book will be utterly smitten with Leah." - ALA Booklist (starred review)

"With complex characters, authentic dialogue, and messy but- beautiful friendships, this sequel is more than capable of standing on its own. A subversive take on the coming-of-age romance that will leave readers feeling like witnesses to a very special moment in Leah's life and filled with gratitude for sharing it." - Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

Praise for WHAT IF IT'S US: "Fan-favorites Albertalli (Leah on the Offbeat,2018, etc.) and Silvera (They Both Die at the End, 2017, etc.) join forces in this tale of a New York City summer romance. This joyful romance is both sweet and substantial." - Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

"A charming, sweet-natured love story between two very different boys." - Publishers Weekly (starred review)

"Albertalli and Silvera balance cynicism and starry-eyed optimism to paint an honest, compelling picture of adolescent romance. Part feel-good, part star-crossed, this seamless blend of the authors' styles will appeal to fans old and new alike." - School Library Journal (starred review)

Praise for HERE'S TO US: "Swoonworthy wish fulfillment that checks all the right boxes." - Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

"How do I explain the part where Tessa's smile made my chest hurt?"

Emilie aus Münster am 11.05.2024

Bewertungsnummer: 2198744

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

Imogen's a people pleasing overthinker who considers herself a big LGBTQIA+ ally... until her bestie Lili told her new friends they've dated before and Tessa came along. She's going through a proper full on gay crisis á la Nick Nelson while people putting her in the "straight girl box", was alles nur verwirrender macht. I loved it so much! || coming of age • relatable mc • bi awakening • internal angst • sexuality discussions • first crush

heartwarming YA novel

Bewertung am 28.12.2023

Bewertungsnummer: 2096380

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

It´s a beautiful YA novel that deals with topics like queer baiting, biphobia and the journey of self-discovery. This book will never leave my heart. I expected it to be a bit cheesy but Becky Albertalli was able to write such a loving main character with this relatable queer story that made me fall in love with the protagonist as well as myself.
