I love "The Bridge Kingdom" series - the author's writing style, the world-building and, above all, the phenomental characters. Whether they're main or supporting, they all have depth and you can really tell how much care has gone into developing them. Lara's introduction to the story is perfect and she's a fantastic protagonist who, during her training, has been confronted with many prejudices and lies, which she must question as the plot unfolds, for she has been tasked with bringing down the Bridge Kingdom of Ithicana by entering into an arranged marrige with its king. Lara must decide whom she trusts and whose side she is on in the looming war. The cliffhanger is perfectly placed in the middle of the plot and you'll want to dive straight into book two to find out what happens next - and believe me, it's going to be extraordinary.

This book is equally bad as it is good. I didn't like Lara for most of the book and her inner conflict wasn't portrayed as good as I had hoped it would be. Whenever there was action and fighting the story got a major boost but whenever there was not? Man.. it was hard to keep reading through most of the middle part. I don't wanna say I was bored through several chapters but oh well. Only by the last like 80 to 100 pages did it get thrilling and exciting; but those were really, really good. By the time I made it to the last few chapters I could hardly put the book down. The action scenes were what saved this book for me.
