"Isn't there already enough horror in this world?"
If it comes to horrorfans the answer to that is definitely "No". In the eyes of Opposers the answer is: already way too much. That's the major conflict this book talks about. Written in 1989, Ramsey Campbells novel takes place in and around the movie- and television industry in Great Britain at the end of the 1980s. Cencorship was heavy in that timeperiod and horror was a scapegoat for all that plagued society. The Plot revolves around Sandy, a television editor and her quest for an obscure movie called "Tower of Fear", that's rumoured to be haunted, if it even exists. Here's the thing: This book lives majorly by atmosphere. It's a great read in my opinion, but you have to like slowburns and things lurking in the shadows to fully enjoy this novel. The supernatural entities are mostly in the background and only fully show themselves at the end. The most engaging parts are the characters and their conversation about movies, censorship and who benefits from it all. This book shows a lot of insight into the world of horror, especially horror movies, and shares fascinating viewpoints concerning censorship, some of them still somewhat current nowadays.
