My Best Friend's Honeymoon A friends-to-lovers romance with sweetness, spice, and a holiday too hot to waste

Elsie has always chosen the path of least restistance. When her people pleasing ways lead her to almost getting married in a surprise wedding her fiance had planned, she finally decides to pull the plug on the relationship. On the honeymoon-turned-vacation with her childhood best friend Ginny (they/she) the two finally give into years of pent up sexual tension. Will their friendship blossom into a romantic relationship or did they just make a huge mistake? I'm normally not much of a romance book reader, but I was just on my own honeymoon and after all the wedding stress I wanted to read something light to decompress. I mainly just wanted to be entertained and, oh dear, this book delivered! The character's yearning for each other is off the charts, their chemistry undeniable, and the spice - chef's kiss-. Finally a sapphic romance novel with some good sex scenes! I also really enjoyed the wider queer community the book depicted and the way the author wrote a butch lesbian who uses they/she pronouns! I've found that the few LGB (let's be honest, unfortunately not a lot of T) Q+ romance novels I've read lacked some depth regarding their queerness. So reading this was truly a joy. The story is told through the POV of Elsie and Ginny, so readers get to know them as individuals outside of the relationship. Elsie works for her family business where her ideas for improvement keep being ignored; Ginny loves fostering dogs and is trying to figure out if their woodworking side hustle could become their main source of income. This created a rich world through which the plot moved smoothly. My only minor complaint is that I wish the chapters would say whose POV it is, since I did find myself reading a couple of sentences before figuring it out.

The long-time best friends-to-lovers arc brims with chemistry and a refreshing dose of non-binary and sapphic representation, making for a fun and heartfelt escape. However, some moments feel rushed and the emotional development doesn’t always land as deeply as the sizzling intimate scenes do. Overall, it’s a lively read for fans of bold romance with lots of heat—and a good reminder that sometimes happiness means asking for what you truly want. (18+!)
