Payback's a Witch

Sexy, sassy, and intriguing are not only the characters in this book but also its plot. At first, I was skeptical, seeing as the whole idea of a revenge plot is not exactly new and fresh, however, I was positively surprised by not only Harper‘s very own spin on the idea but also the care and love with which she created this world of modern-day witches. Thistle Grove is addicting and I can’t wait to read more about it!

Das Buch hat mich schnell gefesselt und die wlw story ist gut geschrieben. Ich bereue es nur das ich es nicht im Oktober gelesen habe, das hätte den witchy vibe beim lesen noch mal besser gemacht.

Eine richtig schöne Geschichte! Mir hat der Schreibstil sehr gut gefallen und ich war ab Kapitel 1 direkt in der Story drin. Emmy mag ich richtig gerne – sie hat eine tolle Persönlichkeit und ich mochte ihre Entwicklung im Laufe der Geschichte sehr. Als sie wieder nach Thistle Grove zurückkommt und nach und nach all die Energie, Magie und Freude der Stadt wieder spürt, war das einfach so schön zu lesen. Auch dass sie direkt wieder mit Talia und Linden so eng verbunden ist und die drei sich zusammentun, hat mir richtig gefallen. Der Wettkampf-Aspekt war super spannend und aufregend. Ich mochte Emmys Aufgabe total und hatte das Gefühl, dass sie darin richtig aufgeblüht ist. Talia, Linden, Rowan und auch Gareth haben die Geschichte zusätzlich noch interessanter gemacht. Allgemein war die ganze Sache mit Gareth echt crazy und ich bin froh, dass er am Ende bekommen hat, was er verdient hat (vielleicht sogar noch zu wenig, aber immerhin ). Die Beziehung, die sich zwischen Emmy und Talia entwickelt hat, war so, so süß und einfach herrlich mit anzusehen. Gerade das Ende hat mich richtig berührt, als Talia ihr den Kranz überreicht hat ❤️ Eine wirklich wunderschöne magische Geschichte, die mich von Anfang bis Ende begeistert hat. Ich hoffe sehr, dass die anderen Teile auch noch ins Deutsche übersetzt werden

I’m really not much of a romance reader. If you compared the percentage of romance books I own to the rest of the genres on my shelves, romance would lose hands down. But by chance, I picked up a copy of Payback’s a Witch. After reading Legends & Lattes, I’d been craving fantasy stories in the cozier corners of the genre, especially those featuring queer main characters. And that’s exactly why I picked up Payback’s a Witch and I truly enjoyed it. This is a book that won me over. What can you as a reader expect? Imagine John Tucker Must Die meets a magical scavenger hunt. Set in a town with the cozy vibes of Practical Magic/Halloweentown. And featuring a romance between two bi women. It’s clever, fun, and genuinely delightful. I couldn’t give it a full five stars because certain parts felt a bit rushed. A longer story would have given Lana Harper more space to expand on the world and its characters, making it even more immersive. The good news is that this is just the first book in the series, so fans will have more of the charming world of Thistle Grove to explore. Payback’s a Witch is a perfect recommendation for anyone looking for a magical romance filled with heart and queer representation.

Sehr schönes Buch mit Halloween-Vibes. Zugegeben, das Setting hat mich mehr angesprochen als die Geschichte, die zwar sehr schön, aber etwas vorhersehbar war. Trotzdem ein gutes Buch, welches ich im Herbst sehr gerne nochmal lesen werde!
