Loveless

Georgia ist nicht wie die anderen. Mit 18 ist sie immer noch Single und ungeküsst, das will sie jetzt am College ändern. Eine wunderschöne coming of age Geschichte in der es nicht nur um die Liebe geht und es auch ein Happy end sein kann ohne den perfekten Partner.

After four years it was time for a „Loveless“ re-read. I really had nearly forgotten how much this story means to me. I can relate to Georgia’s reality in a lot of aspects. She is rather introverted and has a small (but deep-rooted) circle of friends. Her struggles regarding her sexuality and the pressure she felt (from societal standards) are quite familiar for queers (especially those on the aroace spectrum). Alice Oseman portrays the reality of being aroace in today’s society really well - especially the way Georgia tries to fit in the heteronormative standards. I really loved the focus on friendships. Georgia and her group can be perfectly described with one term: messy. This group is messy. Four young adults who try to find themselves and get their new life (at university) sorted out. They are insecure, emotional and make mistakes. A lot of bad decisions. They are real. Even though Georgia, Pip, Rooney and Jason have different interests and personalities and even though a lot of things go sideways they still find back to each other and can forgive. Georgia’s friend group is the definition of a healthy friendship. If I had to describe my reading experience with one word, it would be „wholesome“. This book is a warm and cozy hug - it’s a comfort read. A place you go to seek shelter. I probably will read it a third time. Possibly a fourth. „Loveless“ is a huge recommendation! Especially for queer teenagers struggling with insecurities and their identity. It is a heartwarming story about platonic love and the power of friendship. (Sunil for president!!) (Oh, and plus points for the Star Wars Reference. This is the way).

es ist soooo eine gute Repräsentation von der Verwirrtheit als Jugendlicher. Dazu kommt noch der unglaublich schöne und berührende Schreibstil von Alice Oseman. Absolute Empfehlung

I just finished reading this book and I kinda felt like I should write a review about it, even though I've never written done that before, because it overall just made be kinda happy. The writing style is easy to understand (important for me, since I'm not an native english speaker) and it is a fantastic mix of a cute and kinda realistic teenage story, great aroace representation (which really is still rare to find in any form of media) and somehow also a bit of a learning resource? I'm not sure how much allo people may connect with this book, but I guess for everyone out there, who is aspecs or questioning, this is an absolute gem :)

A wonderful love letter to friendship and found family! "Loveless" is a fantastic novel which portraits all different kinds of love and shows that one is inherently more or less important and human than the other. One of Alice Oseman's finest novels, it was a delight to read.
