What a fun yet spooky read!

I had so much fun with this one! This book is the ideal halloween/ spooky season read! The vibe is so spooky and eerie, just a ominous atmosphere throughout. I went into this book pretty blindly, and I recommend reading it that way. There are so many twists and turns in this book and when I first started it I could never have guessed where this was going. Also after reading it I have to say how well this was thought through! The cover, the illustrations, everything has a purpose and makes perfect sense now! I appreciate that part so much! I always love seeing some mixed media aspects! And the writing is absolutely gorgeous. I just flew through the pages. I absolutely recommend it!

Creepy and spooky, delightfully chilling. In this all-age appropriate ghost story Olivia Prior tells the story (without ever really ‚talking‘) of her family and of Gallant. To learn more about herself, her mother and father and where she fits into this old mansion filled with secrets she goes farther than anyone before her and breaks boundaries never crossed. I love Schwab’s sense of storytelling and her writing is simply sublime! Olivia had me laughing, on the edge of my seat and bawling my eyes out crying. I’m not an emotional reader but V.E. always manages to tug at the heart strings. Her characters and worlds are so rich and dark, her stories fantastic and magical but her characters are flawed, human and relatable. The relationships between them mirror our own and that is where this story truly shines. The relationships and the dangers we face to protect them, the secrets we tell to keep them and the sacrifices we bring to save them.
