In 1943, Janis Joplin was born in Port Arthur, Texas. From there, it was a long way to San Francisco, the hot spot of hippie-culture during the 1960s. In only four years time Janis became a countercultural icon. Her powerful voice, her commitment to music, her rousing onstage performances made her one of the best female vocalists ever. The other side of Janis Joplin is the little girl from Texas, always looking for love and recognition.
