Wonderful. Rum Doodle does for mountaineering what Three Men in a Boat did for Thames-going or Catch-22 did for the Second World War. It is simply an account of the leader of an expedition up Rum Doodle, a 40,000 and a half foot peak in the Himalayas, in the same way that Scoop is simply a tale about newsgathering in Africa. The tone is nearer to Pooter than anyone else I can think of, but the flavour is all W.E. Bowman's own. Sunday Times

    A hidden gem of a book!

    The fictional account of a team of British explorers and their quest to be the first to reach the summit of the (also fictional) mountain Rum Doodle. I stumbled on this book by accident and read it in a day - it is short, tremendously amusing with its cast of hopelessly inept and oblivious characters and their escapades. A classic among mountaineers, it spoofs the diaries of famous expeditions in style and content - it is a classic.

    Reinhold wouldn´t make it to this summit!

    You are interested in mountaineering and have already been reading books by Reinhold Messner, Jon Krakauer and all the other famous people who tell of their adventures on the world´s highest peaks? OK, now here is news for you. Bet you have never heard or read about the first ascent of Mount Rum Doodle, altitude 40.000,5 ft. Imagine Douglas Adams and Monty Python together on a mountain trip – here we are, this book is the amazing and funny result of such a meeting.
