Dying in the Wool

It is 1922 and Kate Schackelton's husband has been missing in action for the last four years. Although considered by many to be dead, Kate is not ready to 'let him go' and has contacted anybody who saw him not long before. Besides doing this she also made an inquiry or two for others. With success for them but not for herself. Therefore when a former VAD, (Voluntary Aid Detachment) colleague contacts her to ask Kate to find her missing father, before her planned wedding, she agrees. This is to be her first assignment as a professional sleuth.To assist her she employs, on the recommendation of her father, an ex-policeman, Jim Sykes. They set out to seek mill owner Joshua Braithwaite, who disappeared in 1916. After being pulled out of a stream, Braithwaite is considered to be suicidal and is taken to a nearby newly opened hospital for soldiers. From here he vanished into thin air! Did Johua Braithwaite commit suicide after he left the hospital or was he murdered. Or perhaps he set off to start a new life elsewhere. Against a background of a Yorkshire mill Kate and Jim Sykes slowly unravel the mystery. But will it be a happy ending?.......Read it and see. :)
