Reading this book felt like reading a fairytale. It's mystical, enigmatic and dark. A man starts driving without destiantion, when it suddenly begins to snow and even the car engine gives up. Left all alone in the cold and spine-chilling forrest he attempts to find his way back home. When suddenly he encounters a strange glowing being. Unsure what it truly is.. Jon Fosse writes fiction with a Handke-like precision, it's like watching a film when reading his books. The vast storytelling reminds one, that nothing ever matters, if in the end the outcome makes one sad. Jon Fosse, the Beckett of the 21st century.

    Vivien Goldman blends interviews and her personal history together to create a book about a subgenre which has been dominated by male artist all along. She provides us with a really broad overview of punk and gives in to a few in depths explanation about feminist-punk movements. With this piece she wraps up the history for the female side of punk and makes one thing clear: Girls invented punk rock, not england!

    Trainspotting

    The raw and vulgar language is what makes this book honest. Honest in telling about a time where hiv was at it's peak and addiction for some the only way out. It doesn't palliate how things really were - on the contrary: It shows what addiction is capable to do to one and whilst reading, you won't only question what is told, but rather how. Hardly anything compares to the storytelling of this book (or film) and it has by far become one of my favourites. Big recommendation for readers of William S. Burroughs :)

    Punk As F*ck

    Als Frau* in der Punkszene zu sein, mag sich anfänglich leicht und zugänglich anhören. Doch das Gegenteil ist leider ganz oft treffend. Sexualisierungen, Übergriffe und ein Gefühl der Unzugehörigkeit einer immernoch männerdominierten Szene, hat mit Sicherheit jede Punkerin schon erlebt. In "PUNK as F*uck" erzählen 50 Frauen* von ihrem Verhältnis zu Punk und wie sie sich innerhalb dieser laut gemacht haben. Von Riot Grrrl über Klassismus bis zu Eventmanagement von Shows wird alles einmal angeschnitten. Wo man mit der Frage anfängt, ob man den "Punk genug" ist, geht man nach dem Lesen mit einer Prämisse raus: "Bildet Banden"!

    Simone de Beauvoir in all her glory. I can't name a single thing she wrote, that I didn't love! With "The Woman Destroyed" she introduces us to three storys, all of them about the crisis' that face us as we get older, but each story intellectually aswell as storytelling-wise unique. All of them putting the woman in the spotlight and exploring the female psyche. She is someone that lives rentfree in my head, not only for her great fictional writings but also for her theoretical writings which profoundly altered the course of events of the second wave of feminist revolutionaries.

    Tanz auf dem Vulkan

    Eine längst überfällige Anthologie über das Sein und Tun in der DDR. Verschiedenste Frauen berichten über das sozialistische Regime, dem sie ausgesetzt waren. Sie arbeiten das Leben als Frau in der Subkultur auf, berichten durch eigene Niederschriften wie es damals wirklich war. Auch im Punk waren Frauen den gleichen Repressionen ausgeliefert wie Männer - darüber zu berichten ist eines der wichtigsten Dinge die bleiben. Damit auch den Frauen eine Erinnerung bleibt und man die Realität nicht nur durch die männlich-privilegierte Linse sieht. Oder um es mit den Worten einer Autorin des Buches zu sagen: "Wenn Unrecht zu Recht wird, wird Widerstand zur Pflicht"

    Sylvia Plath's poems were the first i fell in love with. Her style of writing and describing things is just so beautiful and delicate. Some poems depressing - others you have to read over and over again, to make some sense of them. She is known as the most famous american Author of the 20th century. "Ariel" her volume of poetry and "The Bell jar" her only novel, became extremly famous after her suicide in 1963. Some "Dying Is an art, like everything else. I do it exceptionally well. [...] Out of the ash I rise with my red hair And I eat men like air."

Betty Friedan manages to capture the frustration of a whole generation of women, where 60% dropped out of college just to marry (?!) If you're eager to understand the passion that helped shape different women's movements - you start with this book - part manifesto, part social chronicle. (It's also mentioned in the movie "10 things I hate about you" which is at least as good as "The Feminist Mystique") ^^

    Don Juan de la Mancha oder Die Erziehung der Lust

    Ungeschönt, amüsant und brutal wortgewandt beschreibt nicht nur Robert Menasse, sondern auch sein Buch "Don Juan de la Mancha", sehr gut. Mit einer radikalen Neugier begeben wir uns einerseits auf die Spuren seines Vaters (und warum dieser eigentlich immer so zutiefst gelassen war - vielleicht zu gelassen), andererseits in die Psyche des Protagonisten, Nathan. Im Gegensatz zum Vater kann er nichts mehr genießen. Keine zwischenmenschliche Beziehung, keine Ehe und auch keinen One-Night-Stand. Nichts erfüllt ihn und ein gewisser Nihilismus macht sich breit. Dieses Buch bereitet keinen klassischen Liebesroman, es sucht stattessen nach Antworten auf die Fragen der sexuelle Reizüberflutungen der heutigen Zeit. Literarisch oberste Liga und kein Stück berechenbar.

    Alles nur Einzelfälle?

    Polizei als Freund und Helfer? Mohamed Amjahid zeigt uns mit diesem Buch, dass es ganz klar nicht so ist. Von antisemitischen/rassistischen Polizeichats, bishin zu Racial Profiling wird uns mit Statistiken und eigenen Erfahrungen von Herrn Amjahid klar gemacht, dass es sich bei Polizeigewalt nie um Einzelfälle handelt. Ein top recherchiertes Buch mit viel Aufwand, welches man unbedingt gelesen haben sollte - ein starkes Plädoyer gegen das Ignorieren der systematischen Ursachen von Polizeigewalt. Denn wen ruft man an, wenn die Polizei mordet?
