The Last Arena: AI, Robots and the Last Stand of Truth, Culture and Sport The Next Human Epoch, Part 2, Book Two Machines can now fake our news, make our films and imitate our art. What is left that only a human can do? The Last Arena follows truth, culture and sport through the years after machines become able to do most human work. It is built as a funnel. Part I asks what happens to journalism when a convincing lie costs almost nothing, and argues that proving what is real matters more than catching every fake. Part II follows film and television, from Hollywood and Bollywood to Nollywood and Korean drama, as production costs collapse, likenesses are licensed and crews disappear. Part III asks what machines can imitate in music, pictures, words and made things, and what people will still pay a person to make. Part IV ends in the arena, where the human body is the whole of what people watch and everything around it, from the ball to the referee to the broadcast, is increasingly made or run by machines. The book's argument is economic as well as cultural. What survives the machines survives only if its audience can afford it, and the audience's income depends on which of three roads a society takes: the Owners' Road, the State's Road or the Shared Road. Every chapter traces who earns, who pays and what the state loses, opens with an imagined scene from a single town, and states what evidence would show it wrong. The argument is tested against data, not only stated. Five models, built for the book and tested or calibrated on public data from the United States, the United Kingdom and Asia, measure the rising price of live performance, how spending on culture and sport depends on income, where the money in professional sport comes from, the tax lost when film crews are replaced by computing, and how far machines must take over the work before the factories that make the arena's equipment change where they stand. The book reports where the tests confirmed its claims, where they weakened them and where the evidence is mixed. More than three hundred sources are listed, and every chapter's warning signs are gathered in a technical appendix. The book stands alone and runs alongside The Unneeded, The Implosion, The Hollow Nation, The Other Ledger and The Forbidden. DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.23680225
