In this work, von Dobschutz begins by analyzing the historical context in which the Bible was written and compiled, noting its origins in ancient Near Eastern cultures. He discusses how the teachings and narratives of the Bible were instrumental in forming the ethical and moral foundations of Western thought. The author highlights key biblical principles such as justice, compassion, and the value of human life, showing how these concepts have influenced legal systems and social norms across different cultures. The book delves into various spheres of influence, including literature, art, and education. Von Dobschutz illustrates how biblical themes and stories have permeated literary works from classical to modern times, inspiring authors, poets, and artists throughout the ages. He also examines the role of the Bible in the development of educational systems, arguing that its teachings have been fundamental in promoting literacy and moral education.
