An accessible introduction to the life and work of David Hockney, one of the most popular and recognisable artists of our time.
David Hockney (1937-2026) will be remembered as one of the world's most influential artists. His vibrant and beloved artworks reveal his fascination with the nature of looking, perception and representation, and his commitment to celebrating the beauty of the world around him. This concise book traces the evolution of Hockney's art and his unique approach to making pictures over seven decades. It includes his breakthrough paintings made as a student at the Royal College of Art, his iconic depictions of Los Angeles, his later paintings of the Yorkshire landscape and his explorations with digital technology. Drawing on artist statements - both perceptive and witty - this book is the perfect introduction to the life and work of one of the key artists of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
