A sailor-boxer wakes to find that a ranch feud has acquired a new weapon: him. Drugged and kidnapped in Tampico, Steve Costigan is carried into the hills of Old Mexico, where cowboys want his fists to settle their rivalry with a mining company. Coercion does not sit easily with a man defined by independence, and his resistance brings a sharp comic edge to an already volatile contest of pride. Prize fighting becomes frontier business when Costigan agrees to face Biff "Snoots" Leary, a former boyhood rival and the miners' champion. Their outdoor bout carries more than wagers: ranchers and miners have invested their collective honour in every blow. The boxing is punishing, the bravado emphatic and the rivalry intensely personal, yet loyalty remains present beneath the antagonism. Costigan's endurance and combative spirit drive a short story that treats physical courage with both force and comic exaggeration. Beyond the ring, ranch country and mining interests create a distinctive arena for a western adventure, while the threat of banditry keeps danger close to the contest. Seafaring toughness meets frontier conflict in a compact tale where fists, pride and competing allegiances collide. The unusual pairing of sailor-boxer fiction with ranch action gives the story its particular energy, balancing hard punishment against humour without diminishing the stakes. This book was out of print for decades and is now republished by Alpha Editions. It has been restored for today's and future generations. This edition is not just a reprint - it's a collector's item and a cultural treasure.
