This is a collection of poems written in England during the first quarter of the 21st century, reactions to national, international and personal events. They express some of the author's wide-ranging interests and observations on politics and life. These include leisure, friendship, love, human relationships, the 2008 economic crash; a fascination with the process of ageing, personal decline and death; and hard-hitting, highly political commentary on the media, as they guide public opinion, and politicians, as they cause havoc in the world whilst selling themselves to a gullible public as peace lovers.
The persecution of the Palestinians, the lies that were told to try to justify the criminal attack on Iraq, hidebound attitudes that lead to internecine violence and many lame excuses for wars are all explored in war poems.
David Roberts published a collection of his poems about the Kosovo War in 2000 and a collection of his poems, Poems About Love, (available from Amazon) in 2023. He is the editor of four war poetry anthologies, and ran the publishing company Saxon Books for thirty years. He has long been interested in international relations and was on the executive committee of Action for UN Renewal for many years.
He is a music promoter.
