"Much of what is described now as Utopian was accepted then as a matter of fact." Explore the role of mutual aid in early societies with this zine drawn from Peter Kropotkin's iconic text Mutual Aid: A Factor of Evolution. Here you'll discover how regular working people resisted infringements on their freedom and self-determination--from early monarchies to landownership--all across present-day Europe. Innovation and equality flourished during the so-called "dark ages," developing fortified villages, visionary architecture, common property, and guilds that protected worker interests; peasants had eight hour workdays and holidays off. No wonder we aren't taught history like this! This pocket guide is full of anti-capitalist inspiration for today's activists, organizers, and anyone who knows a better world is possible.
