Amid a climate of political violence in Abidjan, the role of women leaders has been a central focus of our attention. This research has helped us understand that women leaders from the Presidential Majority (LMP) and the Rally of Houphouetists for Democracy and Peace (RHDP) played a significant role in the crisis that shook Abidjan, the capital of Côte d'Ivoire, from 2002 to 2011. On both sides, they engaged in severe verbal violence. To shed light on this confusion, it was important to collect data that could inform us about their possible involvement in the political violence in Abidjan. Content analysis-specifically formal analysis-allowed us to identify the forms and sequences of discourse likely to incite violence. However, it was through the analysis of expression that we were able to elucidate the effect of the female leaders' discourses on the listeners and their ideological dispositions. The form of the discourses allowed us to grasp the true role of the female leaders' discourses in the political violence in Abidjan from 2002 to 2011.
