Constitutional Democracy in Crisis? II

Mark A. Graber is a Regents Professor in the University System of Maryland, a Distinguished Professor at the University of Maryland Baltimore, and a Professor of Law and the University of Maryland Carey School of Law. He has written or edited more than fifteen books, most notably Dred Scott and the Problem of Constitutional Evil, and more than 200 articles and essays. Professor Graber received the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Law and Courts Section of the American Political Science Association in 2023 and was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2025. Mark Tushnet is William Nelson Cromwell Professor of Law emeritus at Harvard Law School. He is the co-author of four casebooks, has written numerous books, including a two-volume work on the life of Justice Thurgood Marshall and Advanced Introduction to Comparative Constitutional Law, Taking Back the Constitution: Activist Judges and the Next Age of Constitutional Law, Why the Constitution Matters, and Weak Courts, Strong Rights, and has edited several others. He was President of the Association of American Law Schools in 2003. In 2002 he was elected a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Sanford Levinson holds the W. St. John Garwood and W. St. John Garwood, Jr., Centennial Chair in Law, at the University of Texas, Austin, School of Law, and an appointment in the Government Department. He was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2001 and received the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Law and Courts Section of the American Political Science Association in 2010. He has authored several books on the United States Constitution, beginning with Constitutional Faith (1988, 2d ed. 2011) and, most recently (with Cynthia Levinson) Fault Lines in the Constitution (3rd ed. 2025). Antonia Baraggia is Full Professor of Comparative Law at the University of Milan, Italy. Her research focuses on comparative constitutional law, European Union law and human rights. She has visited McGill University, the Max Planck Institute (Göttingen), Reichman University (Tel-Aviv), Charles University (Prague) and the University of Maryland. She publishes extensively on conditionality in the EU, the rule of law separation of powers and socio-economic rights. She has coordinated the EU Capacity Building Project 'Comp-Law' with Mongolian Universities and PI of "The EU's Impact on Democracy before and after Accession: Tools, Effectiveness and new Perspectives."
