This study has a story I'd like to share. At the beginning of this century, whispers began circulating about some businessmen marrying their secretaries. These whispers grew into a clamor when it was heard that unregistered marriages had spread to university students and then even some high school students.
Since it's difficult to provide statistics or identify the specific individuals involved, I posed a question at the end of my lectures to several psychology classes: if anyone knew someone who had entered into an unregistered marriage, please meet me after the lecture.
And indeed, my journey began like a snowball. I found one student, then several, who admitted to knowing people involved in unregistered marriages. It later turned out that they themselves were the ones involved, and they also knew colleagues from other departments and colleges who were involved in unregistered marriages for various reasons. Although I conducted this study as part of a research paper for my promotion, I found that a more in-depth, both quantitative and qualitative, analysis would be very beneficial in shedding more light on this problem. This would help those in positions of authority understand the nature of the issue, especially since unregistered marriage is, in essence, a way to satisfy sexual desires without any official declaration. One of the reasons many women and widows resort to it is to maintain their monthly pensions and provide for their young children, who are in dire need of financial support.
Furthermore, the cost of official marriage has become prohibitively expensive, and families must contribute financially to their sons and daughters to make marriage possible.
