This book addresses the topic of nationalist political thought, stemming from several fundamental reasons, perhaps the most prominent of which are:
- Nationalist political thought is a highly influential factor in shaping states' positions and directing their policies under the guise of national goals, national interests, national security, etc. It can be used to achieve objectives ranging from nation-building, state formation, and unification, to weakening, fragmenting, and dismantling nations.
- Since the beginning of the 21st century, nationalist political thought has witnessed a remarkable revival and rise, reflected in the increasing and intensifying demands of smaller groups for recognition of their identities, of which national identity is a fundamental component, and their pursuit of what they consider, genuinely or falsely, to be the legitimate rights that have been violated. We aspired to study nationalist political thought in all its aspects and dimensions, but our ambition exceeded our capabilities. Therefore, our efforts were limited to attempting to provide an introduction to nationalist political thought, thus leaving the path open for broader and more comprehensive works on this subject. This is especially important given that much of what is happening in our contemporary world proves that nationalism has not become a forgotten history, but rather remains a history that continues to resonate and has its doors wide open to the present and future, even for peoples who were said to have abandoned nationalism and replaced it with other forms of social bonds.
