Visionary artist Brigid Marlin, founder of The Society for Art of Imagination, paints a vivid picture of her life as an artist in this beautifully illustrated autobiography. She gives us an extraordinary insight into the world seen through an artist's eyes as well as revealing the practical difficulties of making a living as an artist.
The book covers her time as an art student, her travels, her personal and professional challenges, and the many remarkable people she encountered through her art.
We learn how she came to found The Society for Art of Imagination, an international society that included such well-known visionary artists as Ernst Fuchs and HR Giger. Through plentiful illustrations we see the development of Brigid Marlin's craft as she depicts the fantastical world of her imagination.
Brigid Marlin is an internationally acclaimed artist. Her early training took place in the leading art schools of Dublin, Paris, and New York City. Later she studied with Ernst Fuchs in Vienna, before joining him as a teacher at his annual summer schools. She has exhibited, been an artist in residence, and taught in the UK, the United States, and several other countries. Her mische-technique portrait of author J. G. Ballard is in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery, one of P. L. Travers (author of Mary Poppins) is in the library of the Baldwin School in Philadelphia, and her portrait of Lord Longford hangs in the House of Lords. Her works are also in the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art and the National Museum of American Artists and Illustrators.
